This is the first neighbourhood guide for my favourite locations in Lima and it’s all about the tourist friendly, foodie district of Miraflores. There are so many amazing places to see here, so the list is pretty long. However, there are always places for me to add as new places pop up, so don’t forget to check back!

This guide partners with my list on Google Maps, ‘Distrcit Edit – Miraflores’ and it just explains my choices in slightly more detail and shares any extra information I may have written previously. Links for the different locations are available through the map. I hope this helps give you some inspiration for your next trip to Miraflores!

Puku Puku – Coffee Shop

Delicious Peruvian coffee, frappes and cakes, plus Candelaria beer and coffee accessories.

El Pan de la Chola – Bakery/Cafe

A scrumptious variety of breads, toasted sandwiches, brightly coloured extractions and delectable baked treats.

Choco Museo – Museum/Workshops/Cafe

This place covers so many bases but it’s all about chocolate. Take a chocolate making workshop, drink some hot chocolate, eat chocolate cake and learn about where their cocoa beans have come from.

Miss Cupcakes – Bakery

Yummy cupcakes in a selection of flavours and seasonal specialities, plus fruity teas and some of the best hot chocolate in Lima.

Nuevo Mundo Draft Bar – Bar

Nuevo Mundo brew their beer out in Surquillo and sell them in bottles throughout Peru. However, they now also have their own bar where they serve up their beer alongside a number of other breweries. Nice views over the park and some great artwork inside (above is one of their bottle designs – not on display in the bar).

Larcomar w/ Kuna & La Iberica – Shopping

Mostly open air shopping centre situated in the top of the cliff overlooking the sea. Lots of shops including Peruvian brands Kuna (selling items made from alpaca, vicuña, bamboo and more), La Iberica (Arequipeñan chocolate -very delicious), and Maraná (Peruvian chocolate – divine). Plus a wide selection of eateries with a view!

Maido – Japanese-Peruvian (Nikkei)

One of the best restaurants in the world (no. 13 – according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants), and the makis, main dishes, cocktails and desserts are all stunning. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with both Japanese and Peruvian elements. If you want to try a little of everything, order the tasting menu.

La Gastronoma – Deli/Wine Bar

Lots of cheese, meats, Peruvian products and Italian wine. They also have the nicest little courtyard to sit in and try their produce.

Bioferia – Market

Organic eco market selling fruit, veggies, grains, and clothing amongst other things. Gets very busy, so go early!

Maga – Desserts

Go for the Suspiro de Limeña (the signature dessert which comes in a number of flavours) and stay for the Tres Leches. The desserts here have a reputation and there are so many to choose from.

Ana Avellana – Bakery/Cafe

Gorgeous blueberry cake with a lemony icing amongst many other pies, cakes and treats. Has a very modern English style decor that wouldn’t be out of place in London or Cambridge.

Bao? – Taiwanese Fusion

The ever famous steamed buns (London loves this cuisine too!) filled with pork belly, pulled pork, fried chicken and more. They also do salad bowls and rice bowls filled with similar ingredients.

El Mercado – Modern Peruvian

Delicious tiraditos, ceviches and cocktails served in a gorgeous light space filled with plants, trees and red brick walls.

Papacho’s – Burger

Where everything is hamburger-able! Started by Gastón, this restaurant specialises in burgers of all different kinds; from egg and fried banana to blue cheese and mushroom. They do a lunch set menu during the week, which is very good value and you should always order the camu camu lemonade!

Tarboush – Arabic

This little place opposite Kennedy Park offers up great falafel plates, hummus and pitta bread, and an arabic lemonade to die for.

La Lucha – Sandwiches

A fab little counter service sandwich shop overlooking Kennedy Park. They do purple potato fries and tasty sandwiches filled with all sorts of meats like fried pork, and ham with salsa criollo (onion salad).

Atrium Miraflores – Hotel

Newly opened boutique hotel in the heart of Miraflores with fantastic service. Beautiful breakfast and bar area with a great variety of offerings, and rooms are equipped with a little kitchenette which is super useful.

Antara Hotel – Hotel

Upscale hotel, also centrally located in Miraflores. Beautiful big rooms and very helpful staff.

San Antonio – Cafe

Lovely chain of cafe’s with table service and old fashioned style uniforms. Huge soups and salads, delicious desserts (try the profiteroles and the fruit tart), and the Spanish hot chocolate is one of my absolute favourites.

Los Bachiche – Italian-Peruvian

Another Gaston owned establishment (next door to Papacho’s) that serves up a great tiramisu. Beautiful space, great service and free corkage (always a bonus).

Miraflores Central Park – Park / Food Carts

Charming park in the centre of Miraflores filled with cats (real ones, not statues!). At night the park is filled with food carts selling traditional desserts (like picarones and turron), sandwiches, and even a warm emoliente (a herbal drink).

Cañas y Tapas – Bar

This pub style bar has a fantastic selection of national and international beers. They also have live music sometimes which makes for a really fun atmosphere.

Panchita – Peruvian

I really love this restaurant and the portions are huge most of the time! The walls are covered with Peruvian style decor, from traditional bull statues to the more modern chicha style writing. The anticuchos, the papa rellena  and the tamales are a good place to start!

Huaringas – Bar

A stunning bar with a huge selection of piscos and pisco cocktails.

Parque del Amor – Park

I love walking the whole of the malecon, but that’s not an option on the map so I’m picking a couple of places along the way. The statue in the Parque del Amor  is a bit overwhelming however the view over the ocean is lovely, as are the mosaic benches. So colourful!

Lighthouse – Park

This is a beautiful section of the malecon surrounded by flowering parks. They sometimes put on open air concerts around this area too and the lighthouse makes for a dramatic vista.

Indian Market – Shopping

My favourite place for souvenir shopping. There a so many markets along this road, but this is by far the best. It is situated right next door to Hiraoka and opposite the Compu Palace so you don’t get confused! You can buy alpaca blankets, beautiful olive wood bowls and boards, alpaca slippers, bull statues, silver and so much more.

Madam Tusan – Peruvian-Chinese (Chifa)

Upscale chifa restaurant serving amazing fried rice and duck in steamed buns.

Huaca Pucllana – Historical Site

Experience the lives of the ancient Lima culture through the exploration of their adobe temple, which still stands today surrounded by the modern, urban society of today. There’s a restaurant on site, and if you come at night you can have a view of the temple dramatically lit up against the skyline.

La Carniceria de Tito – Butcher

An Argentinian butcher selling a fabulous variety of chorizos (try the one with cognac in it), which we buy by the kilo along with their morcilla (black pudding) and a great chimichurri sauce.

La Tiendecita Blanca – Swiss

European style cafe serving up great set breakfast menus and apparently a top notch cheesecake.

Palachinke – Swiss

Palachinke serves up some of the biggest pancakes you are likely to find anywhere (crepe style, not American), and they have a wide range of toppings to choose between, both sweet and savoury.

Belmond Miraflores Park – Hotel/Bar

I love the old English style drawing room feel that the lobby bar has. Bookshelves line the back walls filled with antiquities and old hardbacks, whilst seating comes in the form of leather or bright coloured sofas. Have a glass of wine and a cheeseboard and make yourself at home.

La Matilda – Cafe

Tiny, vintage-style cafe serving a variety of teas alongside cakes and chocolates, including some gluten and dairy free options.

Francesco – Seafood Restaurant

Francesco has an amazing view of the malecon and the ocean from it’s first floor (2nd floor if you’re Peruvian) restaurant. I always go for the crab ravioli….

Central – Modern Peruvian

I’ve included Central because it’s the best restaurant in Latin America, and no. 4 in the world, however I’ve not been fortunate enough to visit so I cannot put this down to a personal recommendation. The owner and chef, Virgilio Martinez, also has another restaurant in Lima, plus 2 in London, all of which I’ve been to and loved, so I can’t think of a reason why Central shouldn’t be visited!!

La Vista – Hotel Restaurant / Buffet

Their Sunday Lunch buffet is fantastic and for a pinch over s/100 you have yourself a feast, plus a glass of sparkling wine and unlimited pisco sours. So worth it! The afternoon tea buffet is also lovely, with a huge range of desserts and sandwiches on offer.

El Enano – Sandwiches & Juice

A roadside corner cafe, open to the street, offering a huge menu of sandwiches and juices. Seating is very limited so be prepared to wait or even take-away.

La Preferida – Seafood

A brightly coloured seafood restaurant that offers canchita to start, a great ceviche, and some super fresh mussels. Plus they also have a bar space serving up smaller bitesize portions alongside ice cold bottles of beer.

La Nacional – Peruvian

Established as a deli in 1821, La Nacional has transformed into a modern Peruvian restaurant (with Italian flourishes on the menu). I love the quirky accents in the decor, the pasta is delicious and the cocktails are so, so good.

Dolce Capriccio – Cafe

Go for the chocolate cake!! It’s so good. They do have plenty of other options for dessert, but I always go for their torta de chocolate!
