Six Months In & A Summer Bucket List

How is it July already?

I feel like it was only 2 minutes ago that I was writing my travel goals for this year, and here we are six months into 2019. Craziness!

So what’s been happening? I feel like it has been a bit of a whirlwind since I got back to England, and although I’ve not been rushed off my feet, time has definitely flown by. I guess I must be having fun then!

Here are a few of my highlights and favourites from the last few months…

TRAVEL PLANS –  I finally booked my flights for Japan and I couldn’t be more excited! This trip has been a long time coming and I honestly cannot wait. I have a list as long as my arm of places to eat and things to do, and that’s only in Tokyo! I’ve also got a trip to Slovenia on the cards too, so my travel goals for this year seem to be less of a dream than last year’s.

AGATHA CHRISTIE – At one point in May I was reading at least one of her books a day. My mum has a nice little collection from years past and I’m working my way through them at quite an alarming rate. There’s just something about the way she writes her mysteries that I just can’t get enough of. Plus, Poirot is one of my all time favourite detectives so they make for pretty easy reading!

WEDDINGS – I’ve been to 3 weddings in the last 2 months, which I think is more than I’ve been to in the last few years! All were extremely different, but all as beautiful as each other.

CASTLETON – I recently came back from an amazing trip to the Peak District where we stayed in a fab Air BnB in the stunning village of Castleton. We walked and hiked a lot (in both torrential rain showers and on sunny days), ate a lot of pastry, watched a lot of Black Mirror, and just generally enjoyed a chilled time in the countryside. These photos are all from here – isn’t it stunning?!

EATING & DRINKING OUTDOORS – This is the best time of year to be eating outside and so we’ve been doing just that. At the end of May we had the Cambridge Beer Fest out on Jesus Green, last weekend was Foodie’s Festival on Parker’s Piece, and in between I’ve been to Victoria Park Market in London and had tea and cake at the Orchard Tea Rooms in Grantchester. Plus, there’s definitely been the odd barbecue to enjoy and beer garden to spend time in!

It’s currently the most gorgeous day – and not as swelteringly hot as it was on Saturday – and it’s making me think of all the things I’d really like to make sure I get done this summer. I was inspired by Shutterbean to make kind of a summer bucket list/ summer goals, so that I don’t get to September and think ‘oh, I forgot to do that and this and that’. So, what do you think?

MY SUMMER HIT LIST….

– Make many (many) visits to Jack’s Gelato

– Go on a few road trips & explore more of England

– Have a big picnic

– Watch a movie outdoors

– Take a gin workshop or visit a distillery

– Bring home all the summer fruits from a ‘pick-your-own’ farm

– Lie in a meadow in the sunshine

– Eat ‘proper’ chips on the beach

– Go to another open air Shakespeare

– Make a few summer recipes (maybe some elderflower champagne…)

– See some live music

– Tick some more street food spots off my list

– Catch up with friends

– Have afternoon tea

– Visit a new (to me) London food market

I think that’s probably enough to keep me going! I’d love to know what you guys have got planned this summer and maybe I can steal a few of your ideas as well.

Enjoy the sunshine!

And to finish.....
