Brunch at mó bistró

What’s your go-to brunch dish?

I’m pretty sure mine is always an eggs benny or a pile of pancakes. Luckily, mó bistró has both, so it’s the perfect brunch destination for me!

We visited mó bistró a few years back (post here) at its original location in Barranco and absolutely loved the food on offer. Sadly they had to move out of those premises and we were absolutely gutted to not be able to go back. Fortunately, last year they opened up a more permanent space in Miraflores and we’ve been lucky enough to get over there a couple of times to take advantage of their brunch.

The restaurants is open plan, with even the kitchen on show, and in the summer the main windows open out onto a lovely fenced terrace. Its modern and minimalist but with some traditional touches, and I love the natural/green colour combo in the design. The tree in the entrance way, the use of wood, and even the leaf patterns on the coasters really adds to the natural vibe.

But you came here for the food, right?!

The brunch menu is pretty varied, so you’ve got your classic egg dishes, waffles, porridge and pancakes, but also things like sandwiches (the aubergine one is insanely good and the BLTA is delicious), quiches and tarts too. I like too that a lot of their dishes are done with an interesting spin or Peruvian twist. For example, their pancakes come with bacon, but also a ciruela fruit honey, which they make in house from local fruits. It’s super delicious.

I loved their take on the classic eggs benedict, although we both thought there could have been a little more hollandaise sauce. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the flakes of ham were super delicious, plus they put it on top of some fabulous ‘El Pan de la Chola‘ bread which just made for the best trio. If you want you can also choose the option with trout, instead of ham, which one of the staff told us was incredible. Maybe we’ll have to go back again…

Brunch isn’t necessarily all about the big plates, so if you’re looking for a smaller alternative to snack on with a juice or coffee then mó has you covered. Their leek quiche is buttery, creamy and delicious, but the tomato and strachiatella tart makes for a scrummy alternative. There’s also selection of baked goods in their deli too, and I would definitely recommend the chocolate brioche rolls with cacao nibs (if they have them!).

I think the biggest brunch surprise for me were the pancakes though. They’re honestly as light as a feather. I’m normally used to American style pancakes being quite dense and cake-y, so when you have a stack it can be hard to get through them all. However, Mo’s pancakes are so easy to eat as they’re so airy inside. Guiltless pancakes I guess?! I think it’s the fruit honey though that really gives these pancakes an amazing edge.

So if you’re looking for a great spot for a weekend brunch, then definitely make a trip to Mo Bistro.
