2018 Travel Goals

I don’t at all believe in making New Year’s Resolutions, but I thought, after enjoying compiling my 2017 review, that I might like to put some goals down in writing and see how many I’ve achieved by this time next year.

Going to a complete winter wonderland like Finland was something I had always dreamed of doing and back in 2012 we took a family holiday to the ski town of Levi. We did husky sledding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and I almost achieved my life’s goal of witnessing the Northern Lights. I say almost because we really only saw the tiniest and faintest of glows, so sadly I can’t really tick that off the bucket list just yet. Finland is also a location that I really want to visit again, so I felt it an appropriate subject for the photos in this post!

Now, this post won’t be including generic resolutions, for example, healthy eating (I like cake too much). I believe in eating with balance. Which basically means, as long as I eat some fruit and veg, then the pulled pork & bacon pancakes I ate are absolutely fine. I have some personal goals already but I thought I’d share my travel goals with you guys on here. There are so many more places on my lifetime list, but hopefully some of these ones I will get to see this year!

MY TRAVEL GOALS

Scandinavia/ The Nordic Countries

Scandinavia only really encompasses Sweden, Norway and Denmark, but I’d like to include Finland and Iceland in this section too, so Nordic countries seems to be the best term here. It’s a bit of a broad goal, but there are so many places in this part of the world that I want to explore, that anywhere I get the opportunity of visiting would be a bonus. Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, the Norwegian Fjords, and Skaftafell National Park in Iceland… so many places. If I go in winter, I might even get a shot at seeing some bright vivid Aurora Borealis.

Switzerland

A friend of mine who writes the blog Coffee with Ella, just moved to Switzerland, so I’m excited by the opportunity to visit her and explore such a beautiful country at the same time. The Swiss chocolate helps to increase the attraction…

The Spanish Coast

San Sebastian, Barcelona, Valencia. All coastal Spanish cities and all places I would love to visit. San Sebastian for its Pintxos (tapas style dishes), Barcelona for Gaudi, and Valencia for its paella (and it’s been recommended to me by a few friends of mine!).

Bled, Slovenia

If you’ve never seen a picture of Lake Bled you should Google it now and you’ll understand straight away why I would love to visit. It is so very picturesque, and there’s also a mountainside castle there too. Vintgar Gorge isn’t far from Bled and is yet another scenic spot to visit! If I had the opportunity, then I’d also love to head inside Postojna Cave too. I just have to decide whether I want to visit Slovenia in winter or summer…..

Lisbon

Those tiles. Those trams. That food. Lisbon was a destination that had been on my radar for a few years, but 2017 seemed to be the year when everyone visited and it gave me so much travel envy! However, it also gave me so much inspiration and great locations to eat, drink and be cultural.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

This is a bit of a cheat, as I know I’m going here, but ever since the second part of the Universal Studios Wizarding World in Florida opened, I’ve wanted to go here. I visited the Hogsmeade/Hogwarts section quite a few years ago but the Diagon Alley section hadn’t opened yet, so I’m excited to get to experience it!

Brighton

It’s not only places abroad that I have my eye on. There are a few places closer to home I would like to finally visit and Brighton is one of those. It’s a city by the beach that has always drawn me in, but I’ve never had the chance or the time to take a trip. This year is the year that I finally get down there!

Save for Japan

Japan has been one of the top locations on my list for a long time now, but moving to Peru got in the way of going there for a number of reasons, namely financial. However, I still really want to go, so I’m going to start saving as much as I can to get there. Maybe set up an account just for my Japan fund and transfer a little bit into it every week, or go old school with a piggy bank. Literally, whatever helps me save the money to get there!

Bali

I’m pretty sure this one won’t happen for me this year, but a girl can dream!

So, these are my 2018 travel hopefuls, but what about you? Where are you hoping to visit this year? Let me know in the comments below and leave me with even more travel inspiration, or envy!
